According to Statistics Finland’s preliminary data, the total volume of goods transported in domestic waterborne traffic was 0.2 million tonnes in December 2024. Transport in domestic waterborne traffic decreased by 48 per cent compared to December 2023. In December 2024, domestic water transport took place almost only in coastal waterways.

Key selections

  • In December 2024, oil products and timber were transported most in domestic waterborne traffic.
  • The fell in the volume of transport was mostly caused by decreased transport of coal and coke.
  • Preliminary data of the statistics for 2024 will not exceptionally be supplemented until June 2025 as concerns transport of timber in inland waterways.
  • The data of the statistics will in future be published quarterly.
