Rents of dwellings: The base year of the statistics has been updated to 2025

A new reference period will be adopted in the statistics on rents of dwellings in connection with the publication of data for 2026 in April 2026. The new base year is 2025=100.

The base year for the monthly and quarterly index of rents of dwellings is typically changed every five years, in years ending in five or zero.

When the new base year is adopted, the weight structure of the index is updated to correspond to the current situation of the building stock.

In connection with the base year change, the statistics will start to comply with Eurostat's recommendation that water charges should not be included as part of rents of dwellings. In addition, the data validation procedures have been updated. As a result of these changes, average rents and distribution figures are not fully comparable with those published previously.
