Description
Regional accounts are an extension of national accounts from which data are available by sub-regional unit, region, major region, as well as by other regional divisions based on municipalities if required. The statistics also contain comparison data on regional structures, and on their development and levels. The comparisons are usually made with data on the whole country, but occasionally also on the EU countries.
Data content
Regional accounts of production and employment describe Finland’s region-al economics with the concepts and definitions of national accounts by loca-tion of production unit. The accounts are compiled in accordance with the guidelines of the European System of Accounts (ESA 2010). In the regional accounts, production is broken down into output, intermediate consumption, value added and compensations of employees. Employment is broken down into self-employed persons and wage and salary earners. Apart from these, the calculation also extends to gross fixed capital formation, i.e. investments by region. Household sector accounts use the same concepts and definitions as the household sector accounts of national accounts. Regional household ac-counts deviate from national accounts in that they include profits from sale of property. If required, the data are also available exclusive of profits from sale of property precisely in accordance with national accounts.
Classifications used
Areas: NUTS 1 (Mainland Finland and Åland Islands), NUTS 2 (major regions), NUTS 3 (regions) and LAU 1 (sub-regional units). Industries and sectors are classified by the classifications used in national accounts. As appropriate, the indicators are compiled by the classifications used in regional and national accounts. Areas are classified by the regional division into sub-regional units, regions and major regions in accordance with the year of release of regional accounts.
