Description

Regional economic agricultural accounts statistics are a tool for examining agriculture in different areas of Finland for the purpose of an exhaustive analysis of the agricultural production process. The statistics describe the structures of agricultural production, production inputs and investments by major region and region. The data of these statistics are more detailed than other agricultural and regional statistics, or complementary to them. The statistics utilise national accounts concepts, adapted to the special nature of agricultural activity. The data are comparable with those of other EU countries because these statistics are produced annually in all EU Member States using the same methods and classifications. The data are available by major region since 1995 and by region since 2005.

Data content

The statistics describe output, use of means of production, value added, subsidies by product, gross fixed capital formation by type of assets, capital transfers, operating surplus and entrepreneurial income in agriculture. As an entity the data depict the structure of production in major regions and regions.

Classifications used

Areas are classified by the NUTS classification. NUTS1 comprises Mainland Finland and the Åland Islands. NUTS2 is comprised of major regions, which are Southern Finland, Eastern Finland, Western Finland, Northern Finland and the Åland Islands. NUTS3 consists of the 20 regions of Finland. Transactions are classified according to the headings of production, source of income, entrepreneurial income and capital accounts described in Annex V of the Handbook of Economic Accounts for Agriculture and Forestry.

Data collection methods and data sources

The data are collected with an indirect method. Levels for the whole country are obtained from the economic agricultural accounts. The data are broken down by region by utilising secondary sources, such as registers, inquiries, statistics and studies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Statistics Finland.

Updating frequency

The statistics are produced annually.

Time of completion or release

The data from the statistics are released 22 months from the end of a calendar year.

Time series

Starting from 1995 by NUTS1 and NUTS2 areas and by NUTS3 areas starting from 2005.
