Description

The periodical survey of wholesale trade is conducted as an inquiry of enterprises covering all wholesale trade industries. Enterprises are selected to the sample survey so that they represent different enterprise size categories from all wholesale industries.

The data obtained with the survey are expanded to correspond with those on the entire enterprise framework by industry. The data relate to the distribution of the turnover of wholesale trade by product and to the proportions of turnover accounted for by different customer groups. The first periodical survey will be implemented in 2004 concerning the year 2003 and the next one will concern the year 2008.

Data content

The statistics describe the distribution of the turnover of wholesale trade by product category, and the turnover of wholesale trade from agency activity, and retail and motor vehicle sates. In addition, enterprise are inquired what proportions of their turnover come from different customer groups. The enterprise-specific data collected for the statistics are confidential.

Classifications used

Statistics Finland’s periodical survey of wholesale trade is based on the European Union’s regulation concerning structural business statistics (58/97). The used industrial classification is the TOL 2002 which is based on the NACE Rev. 1 classification that is used by all EU countries. The product classification is the CPA, which classifies products according to activity.

Data collection methods and data sources

Expanded data from those obtained direct from enterprises are published on the Internet by industry at the 4-digit level. The sample comprises approximately 1,200 enterprises, selected into the sample by size category and industry so that a representative picture can be obtained with their data about the structure of turnover in different wholesale industries. The data are remitted to Eurostat.

Every five years.

Time of completion or release

In accordance with the regulation, the data are completed with a lag of 18 months from the end of the statistical reference year.

Time series

The data are collected every five years. The data start from the year 2003.
