The number of enterprise closures was down, compared to the first quarter of the year before
According to Statistics Finland, the number of enterprise openings decreased by 6.6 per cent in the second quarter of 2015 from the respective quarter of the year before. Examined by industry, enterprise openings were most numerous in trade. Examined by region, the number of enterprise openings and closures was highest in Uusimaa. In the first quarter of 2015, the number of enterprise closures was down by 2.3 per cent on the corresponding quarter of the year before. According to Statistics Finland, there were 6,864 enterprise openings in the second quarter of 2015. Enterprise openings decreased by 6.6 per cent from the second quarter of 2014, when they numbered 7,350. Enterprise openings accounted for 2.1 per cent of the total stock of enterprises in the second quarter of 2015.
Examined by industry, the number of enterprise openings was highest in trade, where they numbered 1,097, or 16.0 per cent of all enterprise openings in the second quarter of 2015. In professional, scientific and technical activities, enterprise openings numbered 1,050 (15.3%) and in construction 984 (14.3%).
Examined by region, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the second quarter of 2015 in Uusimaa, where it was 2,537. The number of enterprise openings was next highest in Pirkanmaa (624) and in Varsinais-Suomi (556). Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Åland (2.5%). Compared to the second quarter of 2014, the number of enterprise openings increased most in Åland (20) and decreased most in Uusimaa (-159).
Examined by sub-regional unit, in the second quarter of 2015, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (2,380), followed by the sub-regional units of Tampere (505) and Turku (376). Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Ålands landsbygd (2,7%) and Mariehamns stad (2,7%) sub-regional unit. Compared to the second quarter of 2014, enterprise openings increased most in the sub-regional unit of Ålands landsbygd (20) and decreased most in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (-132).
Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise openings were recorded in the second quarter of 2015 in Helsinki (1,321), followed by Espoo (333), Tampere (310), Vantaa (238) and Turku (230). Compared to the second quarter of 2014, enterprise openings increased most in Lohja (21) and decreased most in Espoo (-42).
Examined by legal form, in the second quarter of 2015, enterprise openings of the form of natural person numbered 3,384 and those of the form of limited company 2,877. Enterprise openings of the form of natural person accounted for 49,3 per cent and those of the form of limited company for 41.9 per cent of all enterprise openings.
Enterprise closures, 1st quarter 2015
According to Statistics Finland, there were 5,800 enterprise closures in the first quarter of 2015. Compared to the first quarter of the year before, enterprise closures decreased by 2.3 per cent, as in the first quarter of 2014 they numbered 5,939. Enterprise closures accounted for 1.7 per cent of the total stock of enterprises in the first quarter of 2015.
Examined by industry, the number of closures was highest in trade, where they numbered 1,037, or 17.9 per cent of all enterprise closures in the first quarter of 2015. In construction, enterprise closures numbered 931 (16.1%) and in professional, scientific and technical activities 896 (15.4%).
Examined by region, in the first quarter of 2015, the number of enterprise closures was highest in Uusimaa (2,098). The number of enterprise closures was next highest in Varsinais-Suomi (562) and Pirkanmaa (540). Relative to the enterprise stock, Uusimaa had the most enterprise closures (1.9%). Compared to the first quarter of 2014, enterprise closures increased most in Satakunta (41) and decreased most in Uusimaa (–93).
Examined by sub-regional unit, in the first quarter of 2015, the number of enterprise closures was highest in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (1,970), followed by the sub-regional units of Tampere (433) and Turku (398). Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise closures was highest in the sub-regional unit of Joutsa (2.8%). Compared to the corresponding quarter of 2014, enterprise closures increased most in the sub-regional unit of Pori (41) and decreased most in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (-107).
Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise closures were recorded in the first quarter of 2015 in Helsinki (1,035), followed by Espoo (267), Turku (259), Tampere (242) and Vantaa (238). Compared to the first quarter of 2014, enterprise closures increased most in Turku (40) and decreased most in Helsinki (-106).
Examined by legal form, in the first quarter of 2015, enterprise closures of the form of natural person numbered 3,089 and those of the form of limited company 2,035. Enterprise closures of the form of natural person accounted for 53.3 per cent and those of the form of limited company for 35.1 per cent of all enterprise closures.
