Enterprise openings were most numerous in trade in the third quarter of 2016
According to Statistics Finland, there were 6,211 enterprise openings in the third quarter of 2016. Examined by industry, enterprise openings were most numerous in trade. Examined by region, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Uusimaa. In the second quarter of 2016, there were 5,722 enterprise closures. According to Statistics Finland, there were 6,211 enterprise openings in the third quarter of 2016. Enterprise openings accounted for 1.7 per cent of the total stock of enterprises.
Examined by industry, the number of enterprise openings was highest in trade, where they numbered 1,031, or 16.6 per cent of all enterprise openings in the third quarter. In professional, scientific and technical activities, enterprise openings numbered 949 (15.3%) and in construction 824 (13.3%).
Examined by region, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the third quarter of 2016 in Uusimaa, where it was 2,413. The number of enterprise openings was next highest in Varsinais-Suomi (577), in Pirkanmaa (572) and in North Ostrobothnia (340) Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Uusimaa (2.1%).
Examined by sub-regional unit, in the third quarter of 2016, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (2,267), followed by the sub-regional units of Tampere (457), Turku (397), Oulu (209), Lahti (174) and Jyväskylä (172). Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Helsinki (2.1%), Porvoo (2.1%) and Mariehamns stad (2.1%) sub-regional units.
Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise openings were recorded in the third quarter of 2016 in Helsinki (1,240), followed by Espoo (336), Vantaa (264), Tampere (261) and Turku (244).
Examined by legal form, in the fourth quarter of 2016, enterprise openings of the form of natural person numbered 3,025 and those of the form of limited company 2,697. Enterprise openings of the form of natural person accounted for 48.7 per cent and those of the form of limited company for 43.4 per cent of all enterprise openings.
Enterprise closures, 2st quarter 2016
According to Statistics Finland, there were 5,722 enterprise closures in the second quarter of 2016. Enterprise closures accounted for 1.6 per cent of the total stock of enterprises.
Examined by industry, the number of closures was highest in trade, where they numbered 1,084, or 18.9 per cent of all enterprise closures in the second quarter of 2016. In construction, enterprise closures numbered 848 (14.8%) and in professional, scientific and technical activities 808 (14.1%).
Examined by region, in the second quarter of 2016, the number of enterprise closures was highest in Uusimaa (2,074). The number of enterprise closures was next highest in Varsinais-Suomi (529), in Pirkanmaa (529) and in North Ostrobothnia (323). Relative to the enterprise stock, Uusimaa had the most enterprise closures (1.8%).
Examined by sub-regional unit, in the second quarter of 2016, the number of enterprise closures was highest in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (1,947), followed by the sub-regional units of Tampere (329), Turku (306), Oulu (199), Jyväskylä (162) and Lahti (150). Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise closures was highest in the sub-regional unit of Ålands skärgård (2.1%).
Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise closures were recorded in the second quarter of 2016 in Helsinki (1,104), followed by Espoo (258), Tampere (238), Turku (208), Vantaa (191) and Oulu (163).
Examined by legal form, in the second quarter of 2016, enterprise closures of the form of natural person numbered 2,817 and those of the form of limited company 2,219. Enterprise closures of the form of natural person accounted for 49.2 per cent and those of the form of limited company for 38.8 per cent of all enterprise closures.
Enterprise closures by region, 2nd quarter
Enterprise openings and closures are deduced from the Tax Administration’s customer database. Therefore, changes in Tax Administration’s information systems or database management practices may affect the statistics and the comparability of the time series.
