Students in apprenticeship training number 70,000 in 2008

According to Statistics Finland, 70,000 students attended apprenticeship training leading to a qualification or degree during calendar year 2008.

The number of students was 11 per cent up on the previous year. Forty-five per cent of the students attended training for an initial vocational qualification, 32 per cent for a further vocational qualification and 23 per cent for a specialist vocational qualification. Less than a half of the students, 46 per cent, were women.

New students numbered 28,000. Of the students, 12,200 completed an entire qualification. Of the completed qualifications, 33 per cent were initial vocational qualifications, 40 per cent further vocational qualifications and 27 per cent specialist vocational qualifications. Fifty-two per cent of the qualifiers were women.

These data have been collected from the organisers of apprenticeship training.
