Revised time series of EMU deficit and debt released
The national accounts time series for the years 1975-2004 have been revised. The revision also has an impact on the time series of general government EMU deficit and debt.
General government EMU deficit, which is based on net lending of national accounts, grew particularly from 1993 to 1996 and in 1999 due to changed recording related to bank support. The effect was greatest in 1995, EUR 2.2 billion. Other revisions did not have any significant effect on the deficit figures. The revision did not concern general government debt.
The inclusion of financial intermediate services indirectly measured (FISIM) in gross domestic product had an effect on the GDP share of EMU deficit and debt. Other time series revisions also influenced gross domestic product. Data congruent with the revised time series concerning the year 2005 will be released on 13 July 2006.
