Consumption of coal grew by over 50 per cent in January to June

In the first half of the current year, the consumption of coal in electricity and heat generation amounted to approximately 3.1 million tonnes (77, 000 TJ). The consumption grew by 54 per cent compared with the previous year's corresponding period and in all months of the period it was higher than one year previously. The growth was larger in the second quarter of the year than in the first quarter in both relative and absolute terms. The growth was mainly due to that the majority of the increased demand for electricity was satisfied with condensate power.

Data on stocks of coal now also contain an estimate of the size of the stocks not included in the inquiry.
