Productivity fell in social work and remained nearly unchanged in education in 2008

Local government total productivity increased slightly in education and fell in social work in 2008. According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland’s statistics on local government productivity, the total productivity of education increased by 0.1 per cent while that of social work fell by 1.8 per cent.

Output diminished by 0.4 per cent in education. Total input diminished by slightly more, or by 0.5 per cent, which kept total productivity barely in the positive. In social work output went up by 2.8 per cent. However, a 4.7 per cent growth in total input pushed total productivity into the negative.

The statistics are based on available preliminary data and will become revised in January 2010. The statistics are compiled at the level of the whole country and the data are not available by municipality or joint municipal board. Preliminary statistics on the productivity of health will be published on 28 September 2009.
