Current expenditure on regular education system increased in 2005

According to Statistics Finland, current expenditure on the regular education system increased by 2.8 per cent in 2005 compared to the previous year. Pre-primary education, comprehensive school education and vocational education were the sectors of education where the increase was the biggest. Expenditure per student increased by 3.2 per cent in 2005 compared to the previous year. Expenditure per student increased most in pre-primary and comprehensive school education.

In real terms, current expenditure on the regular education system remained in 2005 at the same level as in the year before. Expenditure per student increased slightly in real terms. In relation to gross national product, current expenditure on the regular education system decreased somewhat.

Current expenditure on the regular education system was 9.3 EUR billion. Expenditure on comprehensive school education constitutes the biggest proportion of the current expenditure on the regular education system. Expenditure on comprehensive school education was 3.4 EUR billion in 2005. The next biggest proportions were university education and research, on which 1.7 EUR billion was expended, and vocational education on which 1.2 EUR billion was spent.
