Current expenditure on regular education system increased in 2007
According to Statistics Finland, current expenditure on the regular education system increased by 3.6 per cent in 2007 compared to the previous year. Apprenticeship training and pre-primary education were the sectors of education where the increase was the biggest. Expenditure per student increased by 4.3 per cent in 2007 compared to the previous year. Expenditure per student increased most in pre-primary education and comprehensive school education.
In real terms, current expenditure on the regular education system decreased slightly. Expenditure per student in real terms remained unchanged compared to the previous year. Relative to gross national product, current expenditure on the regular education system decreased in 2007 which means that gross national product increased faster than current expenditure on the regular education system.
Current expenditure on the regular education system totalled EUR 10.0 billion in 2007. Expenditure on comprehensive school education constitutes the biggest proportion of the current expenditure on the regular education system. Expenditure on comprehensive school education was EUR 3.7 billion in 2007. The next biggest proportions were university education and research, on which EUR 1.8 billion was expended, and vocational education on which EUR 1.3 billion was spent.
