Wages and salaries sum grew by 7.2 per cent in 2008
The wages and salaries sum of the whole economy grew by 7.2 per cent in 2008. The rate of growth was faster than in 2007, when it reached 5.9 per cent. In the last quarter of 2008 the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy was 5.4 per cent higher than one year previously. The wages and salaries sum went up in all main industries during the last quarter of the year. The growth was fastest in private health and social work (11%) and construction (8.8%), and slowest in the public sector (3.5%) and manufacturing (3.7%).

Starting from the next release, the revised standard industrial classification TOL 2008 and base year 2005=100 will be adopted in these statistics. A news item about the adoption of TOL 2008 in statistics on wage and salary indices is posted on the home page of the statistics.
