Wages and salaries sum grew by 3.7 per cent year-on-year in December to February

According to Statistics Finland’s data, the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy was 3.7 per cent greater in the December to February period than in the corresponding period twelve months earlier. In February, the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy grew by 4.1 per cent from the year before. One year previously in December to February, the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy increased by 2.4 per cent.

In December to February, the wages and salaries sum grew fastest in construction, where the growth amounted to 7.8 per cent from one year ago. The wages and salaries sums of other services (6.6%), manufacturing (3.3%), trade (2.5%), private health and social work (2.3%) were also growing. The wage and salary sum of private education was the same as previous year (0.0%) . The wages and salaries sum of financial intermediation (-0.8%) decreased compared to the corresponding period of one year ago.

The wages and salaries sum in the private sector was 5.4 per cent greater in December to February than twelve months earlier. The wages and salaries sum of the public sector was 1.5 per cent higher than in the corresponding period one year previously. In February alone, the wages and salaries sum in the private sector increased by 6.3 per cent and in the public sector by 1.4 per cent from one year earlier. In the December to February period one year ago, the wages and salaries sum grew by 3.8 per cent in the private sector, while in the public sector the wages and salaries sum decreased by 0.4 per cent from one year ago.

The wages and salaries sum refers to the sum total of the gross wages and salaries paid to employees without incentive stock options. The wages and salaries sum is influenced by changes in employment and in the earnings level of wage and salary earners.
