Quarterly volume of goods transported by lorries in domestic transport
The total transport volume of lorries amounted to 5.2 billion tonne-kilometres in the first quarter of 2016, which was three per cent more than in the corresponding quarter of one year before. Ninety-three per cent of the transport volume was transported in professional transport and seven per cent in private transport.
The data for the statistics on goods transport by road are collected from lorry owners with a quarterly sample survey. Transported volume of goods refers to the weight of goods loaded on lorries in tonnes. Tonne-kilometre describes the volume of transport and is obtained as a product of transported volume of goods and length of transport journey.
