Vehicle stock grew by 3,8 per cent in 2007

At the end of 2007, the Finnish vehicle register contained 4,689,452 vehicles, of which 2,989,881 were automobiles. Automobiles accounted for 64.0 per cent of all registered vehicles. The total number of vehicles grew by 3.8 per cent and that of automobiles by 2.9 per cent from the year-end situation of 2006. These data, complied by Statistics Finland, are based on the vehicle traffic register of the Vehicle Administration Centre and the vehicle register of Ålands Motorfordonsbyrå. At the end of 2007, the vehicle register of Åland Islands contained around 33,000 vehicles.

At year-end 2007, there were 2,570,356 registered passenger cars in Finland. The stock of passenger cars grew by 2.6 per cent during the year. Examined by region, the growth in the number of passenger cars was largest, or 3.9 per cent, in Kanta-Häme and smallest, or 2.0 per cent, in Uusimaa and Keski-Pohjanmaa. The whole country considered, the biggest relative increases in numbers of registrations were recorded for mopeds (up by 13.4%) and motor cycles (9.2%). Relative growths of under 5 per cent were recorded in the numbers of motor-driven machines, agricultural tractors, snowmobiles and trailers.
