The biggest relative employment impact of manufacturing measured in the textile, clothing and leather industry in 2008

According to the labour input coefficients of Statistics Finland's input-output statistics for 2009, the textile, clothing and leather industry (TOL 13_15) had the biggest relative impact of all manufacturing industries (TOL C) on employment in Finland's national economy. The number of persons employed in the industry per one million euros of output was 10.5 (direct impact). Correspondingly, the direct and indirect impact of an increase of one million euros in the final use of the products of the industry on the number of employed persons in Finland's national economy was 13.5 employed persons (total impact).

The relative employment impact was the next highest in other manufacturing, incl. manufacture of furniture (TOL 31_32), printing (TOL 18) and repair and installation of machinery and equipment (TOL 33).

Statistics Finland publishes annually supply and use tables and input-output tables describing product flows in the national economy. The data published now concern the year 2008. The revised Standard Industrial Classification TOL 2008 and the new Classification of Products by Activity CPA 2008 have been adopted in the statistics on input-output. Tables according to the new classifications are published at the accuracy of 64 industries and 64 product groups. Tables concerning 2009 will be published in September 2012.
