The shares of use of imported products are based on the “Expense components of the price of output” table of the input-output statistics. In the table, the prices of output that describe the values of industries’ production have been divided into expense components, that is, the use of imported products, taxes on products minus subsidies and value added items (wages and salaries, employer's social security contributions, other taxes on production minus subsidies on production, consumption of fixed capital and operating surplus, net) included in the price.

The industries use imported products and domestic products purchased from other industries as input in manufacturing. In the “expense components of the price of output” table, direct and indirect uses of imported products are considered in the use of imported products. Direct use comprises the use of imported products included in intermediate consumption of the industries. Indirect use comprises the use of imported products included in the manufacturing of domestic products purchased from other industries.

Statistics Finland publishes annually the supply and use tables describing product flows in the national economy, and the input-output and analysis tables derived from them. The data published now concern the year 2014. Tables concerning 2015 will be published in June 2018.
