Cubic volume of granted building permits increased slightly in April

In April 2008, building permits were granted for a total of 5.2 million cubic metres, which is five per cent more than one year ago. The cubic volume of industrial and warehouse building permits grew by good one-quarter from the year before whereas the cubic volume covered by residential building permits decreased by eight per cent from last year's April.

In January to April 2008, new building permits were granted for a total of 15.7 million cubic metres, which is six per cent less than in the corresponding period of the year before. The cubic volume of residential building permits fell by 18 per cent and that of commercial and office building permits by 15 per cent from the year before. By contrast, the cubic volume of industrial and warehouse building permits increased by about one-quarter from last year's January-April period.
