Cubic volume of granted building permits decreased in September

In September 2008, building permits were granted for a total of 3.8 million cubic metres, which is 8 per cent less than one year ago. The cubic volume of industrial and warehouse buildings almost halved from the previous year. By contrast, the cubic volume covered by permits granted for commercial and office buildings grew by good one-third from last year's September. Much of this growth came from one large commercial building project in the Region of Pirkanmaa.

In January to September 2008, new building permits were granted for a total of 38 million cubic metres, which is 14 per cent less than in the corresponding period of the year before. Cubic volumes went down in all building types apart from public service buildings. Building permits were granted for nearly 22,000 new dwellings, which is 15 per cent less than in January to September 2007.
