Cubic volume of granted building permits decreased in October

In October 2008, building permits were granted for a total of 3.3 million cubic metres, which is one-quarter less than one year ago. The cubic volume covered by residential building permits decreased by good one-third from twelve months back. The cubic volume of commercial and office building permits halved from last year's October.

In January to October 2008, new building permits were granted for a total of 42.4 million cubic metres, which is 14 per cent less than in the corresponding period of the year before. Cubic volumes went down in all building types apart from public service buildings. Building permits were granted for nearly 24,000 new dwellings, which is 17 per cent less than in January to October 2007.
