Cubic volume of granted building permits decreased by 11 per cent in 2008

In 2008, building permits were granted for a total of 50 million cubic metres, which is 11 per cent less from one year ago. Cubic volumes went down in all building types apart from public service buildings. The biggest decrease was recorded in the cubic volume of permits granted to commercial and office buildings. Building permits were granted to some 27,000 new dwellings, which is nearly one-fifth less than in 2007.

In December 2008 the volume of granted building permits was 3.7 million cubic metres, which is one-third more than in December 2007. The cubic volume of industrial and warehouse buildings and agricultural buildings increased clearly from the previous year. By contrast, the number of building permits granted to residential buildings decreased from December 2007.
