Cubic volume of granted building permits fell by a quarter in April

In April 2009, building permits were granted for a total of 3.8 million cubic metres, which is roughly one-fourth less than one year ago. The cubic volume of granted residential building permits decreased a good one-third from one year previously. Likewise, the number of building permits granted for industrial and warehouse buildings was well down from the year before. Agricultural buildings and public service buildings were the only categories for which the cubic volumes of granted building permits increased from one year back.

In January-April 2009, building permits were granted for a total of around 11.4 million cubic metres, which is more than one-fourth less than one year before. Cubic volumes went down in all building types apart from agricultural buildings.
