Road traffic accidents claimed 22 lives in February
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 381 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in February. In them, 22 persons were killed and 495 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 2 higher and that of persons injured 79 higher than in February 2007.
Of the persons who were killed, 17 travelled by passenger car. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 2. In addition, 3 other road users were killed. Among those who died, 17 were men and 5 were women.
A total of 829 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to February period. In them, 42 persons were killed and 1 081 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 6 lower and that of persons injured 26 higher than in the corresponding period of 2007. Of the person who were killed, 32 travelled by passenger car. Pedestrians killed numbered 6 and cyclists 1. In addition, 3 other road users were killed.
