Road traffic accidents claimed 24 lives in March
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 340 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in March. In them, 24 persons were killed and 421 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 4 lower and that of persons injured 64 lower than in March 2007.
Of the persons who were killed, 17 travelled by passenger car. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 4 and cyclists 1. In addition, 2 other road users were killed. Among those who died, 18 were men and 6 were women.
A total of 1 178 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to March period. In them, 69 persons were killed and 1 509 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 7 lower and that of persons injured 38 lower than in the corresponding period of 2007. Of the person who were killed, 50 travelled by passenger car. Pedestrians killed numbered 12 and cyclists 2. In addition, 5 other road users were killed.
