Road traffic accidents claimed 25 lives in May

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 650 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in May. In them, 25 persons were killed and 786 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 5 lower and that of persons injured 57 higher than in May 2007.

Of the persons who were killed, 18 travelled by passenger car, 3 by motorcycle and 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 2 and cyclists 1 . Among those who died, 21 were men and 4 were women.

A total of 2 297 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to May period. In them, 117 persons were killed and 2 896 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 13 lower and that of persons injured 1 higher than in the corresponding period of 2007. Of the person who were killed, 84 travelled by passenger car, 1 by van, 7 by motorcycle and 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 16 and cyclists 3. In addition, 5 other road user were killed.
