Road traffic accidents claimed 32 lives in September

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 664 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in September. In them, 32 persons were killed and 788 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 1 higher and that of persons injured 73 higher than in September 2007.

Of the persons who were killed, 17 travelled by passenger car, 6 by motorcycle and 1 by lorry. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 7 and cyclists 1. Among those who died, 23 were men and 9 were women.

A total of 5 122 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to September period. In them, 236 persons were killed and 6 398 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 53 lower and that of persons injured 5 higher than in the corresponding period of 2007. Of the person who were killed, 138 travelled by passenger car, 3 by van, 3 by lorry, 33 by motorcycle and 9 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 33 and cyclists 9. In addition, 8 other road user were killed.
