Road traffic accidents claimed 31 lives in September
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 712 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in September. In them, 31 persons were killed and 841 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 1 lower and that of persons injured 53 higher than in September 2008.
Of the persons who were killed, 17 travelled by passenger car, 1 by motorcycle and 4 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 2 and cyclists 6. In addition, 1 other road user was killed. Among those who died, 21 were men and 10 were women.
A total of 4 948 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to September period. In them, 222 persons were killed and 6 221 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 14 lower and that of persons injured 177 lower than in the corresponding period of 2008. Of the persons who were killed, 132 travelled by passenger car, 5 by lorry, 8 by van, 1 by bus or coach, 24 by motorcycle and 8 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 18 and cyclists 17. In addition, 9 other road users were killed.
