Road traffic accidents claimed 21 lives in May
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 551 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in May. In them, 21 persons were killed and 688 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 10 lower and that of persons injured 105 lower than in May 2009.

Of the persons who were killed, 9 travelled by passenger car, 2 by lorry, 2 by motorcycle and 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 2 and cyclists 3. In addition, 2 other road users were killed. Among those who died, 18 were men and 3 were women.
A total of 1,873 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to May period. In them, 94 persons were killed and 2,434 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 11 lower and that of persons injured 269 lower than in the corresponding period of 2009. Of the person who were killed, 58 travelled by passenger car, 3 by lorry, 3 by van, 5 by motorcycle and 2 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 12 and cyclists 6. In addition, 5 other road users were killed.
