Road traffic accidents claimed 19 lives in November

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 474 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in November. In them, 19 persons were killed and 616 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 9 higher and that of persons injured 96 higher than in November 2009.

Of the persons who were killed, 9 travelled by passenger car, 2 by van and 4 by lorry. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 3 and cyclists 1. Among those who died, 18 were men and 1 was a woman.

A total of 5,605 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to November period. In them, 248 persons were killed and 7,072 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 11 lower and that of persons injured 362 lower than in the corresponding period of 2009. Of the person who were killed, 143 travelled by passenger car, 9 by van, 7 by lorry, 16 by motorcycle and 9 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 32 and cyclists 24. In addition, 8 other road users were killed.
