Road traffic accidents claimed 11 lives in April

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 360 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in April. In them, 11 persons were killed and 449 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 13 lower and that of persons injured 5 higher than in April 2010.

Of the persons who were killed, 8 travelled by passenger car. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 1 and cyclists 2. Among those who died, 9 were men and 2 were women.

A total of 1 441 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to April period. In them, 63 persons were killed and 1 879 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 7 lower and that of persons injured 135 higher than in the corresponding period of 2010. Of the person who were killed, 49 travelled by passenger car, 2 by lorry and 2 by van. Pedestrians killed numbered 7 and cyclists 2. In addition, 1 other road user was killed.
