Road traffic accidents claimed 32 lives in August

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 688 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in August. In them, 32 persons were killed and 806 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 6 higher and that of persons injured 15 lower than in August 2011.

Of the persons who were killed, 16 travelled by passenger car, 1 by bus or coach, 10 by motorcycle and 3 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 1. In addition, 1 other road user was killed. Among those who died, 26 were men and 6 were women.

A total of 4,183 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to August period. In them, 192 persons were killed and 5,267 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 7 higher and that of persons injured 207 higher than in the corresponding period of 2011. Of the person who were killed, 122 travelled by passenger car, 4 by lorry, 6 by van, 1 by bus or coach, 24 by motorcycle and 8 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 17 and cyclists 6. In addition, 4 other road users were killed.
