Road traffic accidents claimed 18 lives in October

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 528 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in October. In them, 18 persons were killed and 634 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 2 lower and that of persons injured 7 lower than in October 2010.

Of the persons who were killed, 9 travelled by passenger car and 1 by lorry. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 5 and cyclists 3. Among those who died, 10 were men and 8 were women.

A total of 5,346 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to October period. In them, 235 persons were killed and 6,646 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 7 higher and that of persons injured 202 higher than in the corresponding period of 2010. Of the person who were killed, 140 travelled by passenger car, 5 by lorry, 8 by van, 1 by bus or coach, 28 by motorcycle and 9 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 26 and cyclists 13. In addition, 5 other road users were killed.
