Road traffic accidents claimed 34 lives in December
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 510 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in December. In them, 34 persons were killed and 632 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 12 higher and that of persons injured 56 higher than in December 2010.

Of the persons who were killed, 21 travelled by passenger car and 1 by bus or coach. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 10. In addition, 2 other road users were killed. Among those who died, 23 were men and 11 were women.
A total of 6,397 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to December period. In them, 292 persons were killed and 7,919 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 22 higher and that of persons injured 258 higher than in the corresponding period of 2010. Of the person who were killed, 174 travelled by passenger car, 5 by lorry, 8 by van, 2 by bus or coach, 28 by motorcycle and 10 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 41 and cyclists 16. In addition, 8 other road users were killed.
