Road traffic accidents claimed 29 lives in July
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 591 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in July. In them, 29 persons were killed and 732 persons injured. The number of persons killed was the same as in July 2011 and that of persons injured 185 lower.

Of the persons who were killed, 11 travelled by passenger car, 1 by van, 3 by lorry, 6 by motorcycle and 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 5 and cyclists 1. In addition, 1 other road user was killed. Among those who died, 24 were men and 5 were women.
A total of 3,045 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to July period. In them, 156 persons were killed and 3,748 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 3 lower and that of persons injured 704 lower than in the corresponding period of 2011. Of the person who were killed, 96 travelled by passenger car, 8 by van, 5 by lorry, 1 by bus or coach, 12 by motorcycle and 4 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 17 and cyclists 6. In addition, 7 other road users were killed.
