Road traffic accidents claimed 15 lives in October

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 489 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in October. In them, 15 persons were killed and 608 persons injured. The number of persons killed was three lower and that of persons injured 26 lower than in October 2011.

Of the persons who were killed, nine travelled by passenger car, two by van and one by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists one. Among those who died, 12 were men and three were women.

A total of 4,822 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to October period. In them, 227 persons were killed and 5,906 persons injured. The number of persons killed was eight lower and that of persons injured 740 lower than in the corresponding period of 2011. Of the persons who were killed, 129 travelled by passenger car, 11 by van, ten by lorry, one by bus or coach, 21 by motorcycle and, six by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 22 and cyclists 17. In addition, ten other road users were killed.
