Road traffic accidents claimed 14 lives in December
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 403 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in December. In them, 14 persons were killed and 563 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 20 lower and that of persons injured 69 lower than in December 2011.

Of the persons who were killed, 11 travelled by passenger car. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists one. Among those who died, eight were men and six were women.
A total of 5,714 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to December period. In them, 254 persons were killed and 7,075 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 38 lower and that of persons injured 844 lower than in the corresponding period of 2011. Of the persons who were killed, 147 travelled by passenger car, 11 by van, ten by lorry, one by bus or coach, 21 by motorcycle and seven by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 29 and cyclists 18. In addition, ten other road users were killed.
