Road traffic accidents claimed 19 lives in April

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 265 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in April. In them, 19 persons were killed and 317 persons injured. The number of persons killed was four higher and that of persons injured 82 lower than in April 2012.

Of the persons who were killed, ten travelled by passenger car and three by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists two. In addition, two other road users were killed. Among those who died, 14 were men and five were women.

A total of 1,121 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to April period. In them, 64 persons were killed and 1,460 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 17 lower and that of persons injured 299 lower than in the corresponding period of 2012. Of the person who were killed, 43 travelled by passenger car, one by van, one by lorry and three by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed numbered six and cyclists three. In addition, seven other road users were killed.
