Road traffic accidents claimed 35 lives in July

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 567 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in July. In them, 35 persons were killed and 713 persons injured. The number of persons killed was six higher and that of persons injured 19 lower than in July 2012.

Of the persons who were killed, 16 travelled by passenger car, one by van and ten by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered three and cyclists three. In addition, two other road users were killed. Among those who died, 23 were men and 12 were women.

A total of 2,780 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to July period. In them, 155 persons were killed and 3,513 persons injured. The number of persons killed was one lower and that of persons injured 235 lower than in the corresponding period of 2012. Of the persons who were killed, 93 travelled by passenger car, five by van, three by lorry, 22 by motorcycle and one by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 12 and cyclists 12. In addition, seven other road users were killed.
