Road traffic accidents claimed 22 lives in August

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 581 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in August. In them, 22 persons were killed and 704 persons injured. The number of persons killed was five lower and that of persons injured 117 lower than in August 2012.

Of the persons who were killed, 12 travelled by passenger car, three by motorcycle and one by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists three. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 18 were men and four were women.

A total of 3,367 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to August period. In them, 176 persons were killed and 4,224 persons injured. The number of persons killed was seven lower and that of persons injured 361 lower than in the corresponding period of 2012. Of the person who were killed, 105 travelled by passenger car, five by van, three by lorry, 24 by motorcycle and two by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 14 and cyclists 16. In addition, seven other road users were killed.
