Road traffic accidents claimed 20 lives in August
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 535 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in August. In them, 20 persons were killed and 684 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 2 lower and that of persons injured 20 lower than in August 2013.

Of the persons who were killed, 11 travelled by passenger car, two by van, one by lorry and three by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered three. Among those who died, 14 were men and six were women.
A total of 3,429 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to August period. In them, 144 persons were killed and 4,331 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 32 lower and that of persons injured 107 higher than in the corresponding period of 2013. Of the persons who were killed, 77 travelled by passenger car, seven by van, two by lorry, 15 by motorcycle and two by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 17 and cyclists 18. In addition, six other road users were killed.
