Road traffic accidents claimed 20 lives in July

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 508 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in July. In them, 20 persons were killed and 669 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 10 lower and that of persons injured 159 lower than in July 2014.

Of the persons who were killed, seven travelled by passenger car, two by van, one by lorry, three by motorcycle and one by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered three and cyclists two. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 14 were men and six were women.

A total of 2,665 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to July period. In them, 135 persons were killed and 3,386 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 10 higher and that of persons injured 264 lower than in the corresponding period of 2014. Of the persons who were killed, 81 travelled by passenger car, nine by van, three by lorry, seven by motorcycle and one by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 16 and cyclists 11. In addition, seven other road users were killed.
