Road traffic accidents claimed 35 lives in August

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 615 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in August. In them, 35 persons were killed and 725 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 14 higher and that of persons injured 33 higher than in August 2014.

Of the persons who were killed, 15 travelled by passenger car, one by van and eight by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered five and cyclists five. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 27 were men and eight were women.

A total of 3,288 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to August period. In them, 170 persons were killed and 4,120 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 24 higher and that of persons injured 222 lower than in the corresponding period of 2014. Of the persons who were killed, 96 travelled by passenger car, 10 by van, three by lorry, 15 by motorcycle and one by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 21 and cyclists 16. In addition, eight other road users were killed.
