Road traffic accidents claimed 22 lives in October

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 368 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in October. In them, 22 persons were killed and 463 persons injured. The number of persons killed was one lower and that of persons injured 15 higher than in October 2016.

Of the persons who were killed, 12 travelled by passenger car, one by van, one by moped and three by lorry. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered three and cyclists one. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 17 were men and five were women.

A total of 3,680 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to October period. In them, 182 persons were killed and 4,619 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 14 lower and that of persons injured 298 lower than in the corresponding period of 2016. Of the persons who were killed, 104 travelled by passenger car, nine by van, four by moped, 12 by motorcycle, eight by lorry and two by bus. Pedestrians killed numbered 22 and cyclists 10. In addition, 11 other road users were killed.
