Road traffic accidents claimed 12 lives in December

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 326 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in December. In them, 12 persons were killed and 416 persons injured. The number of persons killed was three lower and that of persons injured 60 lower than in December 2016.

Of the persons who were killed, seven travelled by passenger car and one by lorry. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists one. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, seven were men and five were women.

A total of 4,420 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to December period. In them, 212 persons were killed and 5,570 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 28 lower and that of persons injured 311 lower than in the corresponding period of 2016. Of the persons who were killed, 124 travelled by passenger car, 10 by van, four by moped, 12 by motorcycle, 10 by lorry and one by bus. Pedestrians killed numbered 27 and cyclists 12. In addition, 12 other road users were killed.
