Road traffic accidents claimed 19 lives in May
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 469 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in May. In them, 19 persons were killed and 541 persons injured. The number of persons killed was seven lower and that of persons injured 54 higher than in May 2017.

Of the persons who were killed, 12 travelled by passenger car and six by motorcycle. Cyclists killed in road traffic accidents numbered one. Among those who died, 15 were men and four were women.
A total of 1,490 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to May period. In them, 76 persons were killed and 1,885 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 15 lower and that of persons injured 115 lower than in the corresponding period of 2017. Of the persons who were killed, 55 travelled by passenger car, one by van, one by moped, eight by motorcycle and one by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered six and cyclists one. In addition, three other road users were killed.
