Road traffic accidents claimed 24 lives in September
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 389 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in September. In them, 24 persons were killed and 473 persons injured. The number of persons killed was five higher and that of persons injured 33 higher than in September 2018. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Of the persons who were killed, 11 travelled by passenger car, two by van, one by moped and five by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists two. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, 22 were men and two were women.
A total of 3,011 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to September period. In them, 168 persons were killed and 3,808 persons injured. The number of persons killed was nine higher and that of persons injured 229 lower than in the corresponding period of 2018. Of the persons who were killed, 95 travelled by passenger car, eight by van, three by moped, 25 by motorcycle and three by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 12 and cyclists 15. In addition, seven other road users were killed.
