Road traffic accidents claimed 11 lives in December
According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 303 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in December. In them, 11 persons were killed and 401 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 14 lower and that of persons injured 19 higher than in December 2018. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Of the persons who were killed, seven travelled by passenger car. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists one. In addition, one other road user was killed. Among those who died, eight were men and three were women.
A total of 3,977 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to December period. In them, 205 persons were killed and 4,987 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 32 lower and that of persons injured 288 lower than in the corresponding period of 2018. Of the persons who were killed, 121 travelled by passenger car, 10 by van, three by moped, 25 by motorcycle and three by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 15 and cyclists 18. In addition, 10 other road users were killed.
