Road traffic accidents claimed 22 lives in August

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 427 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in August. In them, 22 persons were killed and 543 persons injured. The number of persons killed was one lower and that of persons injured 36 higher than in August 2019. The data were compared with the previous year's preliminary data.

Of the persons who were killed, 12 travelled by passenger car, one by van and four by motorcycle. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered two and cyclists one. In addition, two other road users were killed. Among those who died, 14 were men and eight were women.

A total of 2,374 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in January to August period. In them, 149 persons were killed and 2,934 persons injured. The number of persons killed was four higher and that of persons injured 364 lower than in the corresponding period of 2019. Of the persons who were killed, 89 travelled by passenger car, seven by van, 15 by motorcycle and two by lorry. Pedestrians killed numbered 15 and cyclists 14. In addition, seven other road users were killed.
